Field Notes

Description:

Nitric oxide bonds with mitrochondria replacing the oxygen that then react with other chemicals in the abdomen to cause a release of light. Each species has a different flash length. Some species flash quickly others very slowly, (quick = shorter lines slow= long lines) Anywhere from pale green to yellow to red in color (I have seen some red in the area)

Habitat:

Forest, but also common in grasslands and in yards.
