Description:

According to Wikipedia a rare plant. A low-growing perennial succulent that grows in loose sand. This mat was about 8 feet across with several stems that run at or near the surface. The leaves are paddle-like and fleshy. Often with red to pink to purple flowers though none on this plant.

Habitat:

Spotted near the Smiley Lagoon along the San Diego River. Sandy dune area. Native to the coastline of southern California and northern Baja California.

Notes:

The plant is known for its ability to stabilize loose sandy areas.
