Field Notes

Description:

Large, white to gray-capped mushroom with striking purple gills. Stipe is also white to gray and fairly smooth. Spore print is white.

Laccaria ochropurpurea is mycorrhizal with hardwoods (and some conifers).

Habitat:

Top of forest ridge, growing in leaf litter, decaying wood, and moss (under chestnut oak trees). In a dense mixed hardwood forest in Northwest Georgia.
