Carpenter Moth
Zeuzera sp.
15.4558, 119.922
Field Notes
Description:
Zeuzera is a genus in the Family: Cossidae (Carpenter or Miller Moths). "The Cossidae, the cossid millers or carpenter millers, make up a family of mostly large miller moths. This family contains over 110 genera with almost 700 known species, and many more species await description." Wikipedia. I have been unable to identify this specimen down to species level. It bears similarities to numerous specimens shown in https://philepidoptera.wixsite.com/philep, but it is not an exact match.
Habitat:
This Zeuzera sp. was spotted in the flower beds in our front yard on Cockscomb (Celosia argentea).
Notes:
This specimen seemed to be just exactly like those shown in my Spottings Nos. 1817257762 & 476418140. With this third spotting of an identical specimen, I am no further forward in my search for an I.D. at species level. However, I can't emphasize enough how satisfying it is to see a species (albeit one that I cannot identify fully) continuing and thriving in our local area. I hope I have not infringed any protocols in Project Noah by naming these spottings Carpenetr Moth 01, 02 & 03. It was the only way I could think of tying them together to flow as a kind of narrative.
