Field Notes

Description:

Cream-colored larva with a brown head capsule. It was about 5cm long. It was stretched out in a rotting log.

Habitat:

I found it under rotten wood in a swampy, mixed forest.

Notes:

The life span of most longhorn beetles (in temperate regions) ranges from one to three years. The majority of their lives are spent in the larval stage. When the adults finally emerge, they disperse, reproduce, and then die within a few days to months.
