this is a really neat find... I've never seen anything even romotely like this before....

....sorry, can't stop looking at it ! the spikes on the ? gall/cocoon appear at random which makes me think it's part of the wood. do you know what tree/shrub this was on ? I do hope you find out what it is...

Well it looks like a casemoth, or a case bearing moth but I've never seen one that permanently glues its case to a branch.

that's an alien !! Fantastic photos, Sergio. I assume it's a caterpillar emerging from the hole. It's interesting how the waxy substance that looks like a coating around the ? cocoon goes right round the twig (pic #2) . how big was it?
