Species ID Suggestions

Huntsman Spider

Heteropoda sp.

Comments (3)

Hi Pradeep, The spider in your picture is definitely not a Lynx Spider. It is, as you will see in my Species ID Suggestion, a Huntsman Spider. Please click on the link to see a picture taken by Joel Sartore, the famous National Geographic photographer. He calls his spider Heteropoda sp. as I have done in the Species ID, but I believe that Mr. Satore's picture (which was taken in the Philippines) shows a female Heteropoda venatoria. Your photo, I am pretty sure, is a male H. venatoria. The main difference is that the female has a bigger body and shorter legs than the male. Yours, clearly has a smaller body and longer legs. Additionally, your spider also has bigger palps. So, I would say that your spider is a male.
