Field Notes

Description:

Hesperiidae; Hesperiinae; Telicota ancilla minda Evans 1934. "Telicota ancilla, the dark palm dart, is a butterfly belonging to the family Hesperiidae. These species form a complex and exact species identity can only be determined by examination of the genitalia." Wikipedia. The wiki article goes on to list all 8 ssp. Included in the list are the 2 ssp. in Philippines: Telicota ancilla minda Evans, 1934 & Telicota ancilla santa Evans, 1934 .

Habitat:

Spotted on Tropical Whiteweed (Ageratum conyzoides) growing at the conjunction of four rice fields This Tropical Whiteweed seems to be extremely popular amongst many butterflies in our area, and Hesperiidae spp. find it irresistible. They are on and around this particular plant throughout most of the year.

Notes:

I only managed to get one photo, as you can see. Obviously, the cropped picture is to show the butterfly, but I often think that a written description of a habitat may not convey the "atmosphere" and ambiance of the place. So sometimes, if I have a suitable picture, I like to include it.
