Description:

Vanessa cardui is a widespread butterfly. I was unable to get a pic of the upperside.

Habitat:

Spotted in a private butterfly garden in McAllen, Texas.

I was surprised to find out that many populations do migrate. There has been a lot of study on the subject and Wikipedia does explain a lot of what is known.
