Field Notes

Description:

Baby green Iguana. About 15 cm without tail. Bright green with a stripy tail. Some stripes on body and a round patch at ear. It has a pastel coloured ( mint green, pink, blue ) throat flap. GORGEOUS!
Rare. Population on Saba is possibly a distinct species.

Habitat:

In the garden of our holiday cottage, Upper Hells Gate, Saba, Dutch Antilles

Notes:

In the first 3 weeks I saw not one of these and then in a few days time I saw several. I am pretty sure it was not always the same one, so I believe they must have just hatched out of their eggs. We also spotted a slightly older version still very green but a lot bigger already and a few different mature adults in a patch of land below and next to us. See http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/414... and http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/483... ... Awesome.
