Field Notes

Description:

Loons are the Minnesota state bird, and they're so fun to watch! I have never seen the behavior of "foot waggling" or "wagging", but they were doing it a lot! I read that they may wag their feet in the air, individually, to warm their feet...not sure if I believe it because this was summer and a fairly warm lake...any help with identifying that behavior would be welcome!

Habitat:

Freshwater chain of lakes in Northern Minnesota, surrounded by forest.
