Field Notes

Description:

a agressively spreading herbaceous ground cover perennial that forms low-growing mats; a basal rosette of dark green, kidney-shaped
leaves; bright yellow flowers on stalks that rise above the leaves; of moist alluvial

Habitat:

covers the floor of the woods on the floodplain of a creek

Notes:

aggressive and emerges earlier than most native species and easily
displaces native spring ephemerals with its thick carpet of vegetation. This, inturn, negatively affects native pollinators, which rely on
spring ephemerals for nectar and pollen during a time when other food sources are scarce.
