Field Notes

Description:

It looks as though its about to topple over in the first two pictures but actually it has very long feet below the ankle which many people confuse with the lower leg. Most birds stand on their toes with their knees tucked up under their wings with the ankle appearing to be at the top of a lower leg which is actually the foot bone or tarsometatarsus. See notes below.

Habitat:

Coastal lagoon.
