Gray-Banded Kingsnake
Lampropeltis alterna
37.6856, -97.3257
Field Notes
Description:
A gray banded kingsnake at the Sedgwick County Zoo. This species is quite elusive. They're nocturnal and live in an area sparsely populated by humans. A field herpetologist finding one if the wild is quite the feat. Despite this, they are calm in nature and come in a variety of patterns. This makes them exceptionally popular in the pet trade.
Habitat:
Southwest Texas, Southern New Mexico, and Northern Mexico.
