Field Notes

Description:

These beautiful little Flycatchers are a deep, slightly glossy blue-grey on the head and extending down the back. Under the tail is a dark grey while the belly, extending down to the undertail is white. The neck and chest is a lovely, deep rufous-orange colour. These birds have graduated tail feathers (see pic2) which distinguish it from a female Leaden Flycatcher (Myiagra rubecula).

Habitat:

Floating around in this tree that was on the edge of the garden at Goombaragin on the Dampier Peninsula. It's the same tree the Northern Fantail (Rhipidura rufiventris) was in the day before.

Notes:

I never heard a sound from this little one but it stayed within sight for ages so we could both check each other out.
