Thank you Lisa for digging out this spotting to help us illustrate our Fact of the Day! On #NationalMothWeek, each day we'll be bringing you an educational fact about moths, courtesy of National Moth Week team member and Project Noah ranger Jacob Gorneau. Moths in the family Geometridae are well known for creating drag lines, which are essentially bungee cords used in the event of a predator or some other threat. The caterpillar will fall off of the leaf it is feeding on and will remain connected to the plant by a large line of silk. Once it senses that the threat is over it will crawl back up and begin feeding again! National Moth Week is from July 21-29. Are you participating? You can still register a public or private event here: https://buff.ly/2LCh5ge, especially if your country or region isn't on the map yet! On Project Noah you can submit photos of moths you spot here: https://buff.ly/2LBq7tK #MothWeek2018 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/projectnoah/photos/a.10150595289465603.674700.10150120463815603/10160719378845603/?type=3&theater
