Field Notes

Description:

Pictured here is male, an all black bird some 40 - 45 cm in length, with strong yellow bill and red eyes. Very loud call, it was his call that attracted me to this tree - and I was lucky that he waited and did not really reacted during the photoshoot.

Habitat:

Very dry area of Sindhuli district, with some deciduous sporadic trees and shrubs; close to the river/stream and surrounding a very busy road (road Kathmandu - Himalaya)

Notes:

According to literature, this should the subspecies Eudynamys scolopaceus scolopaceus, the hone occurring in Nepal.
