Sitting in a dead pine tree quite far away (hence fuzzy photos).

Your welcome. Pine Warblers are supposed to be picky about habitat though. If it was around pine forest that would confirm the spotting.
Thanks, Joshua. I was thinking pine warbler, too, as we had seen some but I wasn't sure. I'm pretty sure it is not a goldfinch.
My best guesses are Pine Warbler and American Goldfinch, but they don't make sense.
