Field Notes

Description:

I spotted this spider at about 10:00 a.m. in our backyard. It had made a very beautiful stabilimentum (web decoration). So I went into the house to get my camera. I didn't hurry because there was no urgency since the spider was not going anywhere and I knew it would still be there when I went back out. When I saw the spider again, I was happy to see that it had caught a large prey item (I really can't tell if it was a moth or a butterfly), but the idea of a spotting, based on the neat and tidy web decoration, was gone. The struggle between the spider and its prey had completely destroyed the decoration. So, now I had pictures of a spider with very large prey.

Habitat:

This spider, with prey, was spotted in our backyard on its web, moored between banana plants.
