Field Notes

Description:

Tallest land mammal. their long necks enable them to feed from the tallest acacia trees, wrapping their long tongues around a branch and stripping it of leaves.

Habitat:

We encountered this large herd on a largely empty expanse on our way from Ngorongoro crater conservation area to oldapai gorge. On the ridge above the giraffe were a thin line of acacia trees

Notes:

Aside from the serengeti, this was the largest group we saw. There were about 18 in a span of maybe 1/4 mile.
