Description:
The a'ali'i is a small shrub. It's flowers are a deep red color. It's fruit are individual seeds covered in a thin winglike structure. It's leaves are around an inch long and elliptical.
Habitat:
5,000-5,500 feet elevation.
Montane tropical rainforest Kīpuka.
Upper Waiakea Forest Reserve.
Lava flow in 1881.
