Field Notes

Description:

Sphagnum in group Acutifolia. Plant yellow-green with brownish-red tinge. Capitiulum mostly flat-topped, with inconspicuous terminal bud. Fassicles with 2-3 spreading and 1 pendant branch; Stem leaves 1-1.5 mm, slightly tapered at midway, then fimbricate at tip, septations 2-4 per hyaline cell. Branch leaf 1.5 - 2 mm, hyaline cells with pores along commisures.

Habitat:

collected from subalpine lake seep-drainage.

Notes:

Bryophyte Flora of North America leads me to S. rubiginosum.
