Field Notes

Description:

Medium to large dove with a long tail.
Gray head and upper breast, and a reddish copper patch with dark bars on the back of the neck and shoulders.
Body is grayish brown above with scaly markings.
Underside is white.

Habitat:

Woodland, scrubland, urban areas. They are usually found in open areas near water. Sometimes seen in mangroves.

Notes:

My first reference for identification: The Michael Morcombe eGuide to Australian Birds, Mobile App.

Happened across this beautiful dove hanging out near a whole bunch of finches on the Annie Creek walking trail.
