Field Notes

Description:

"It has a comparatively unspotted chest and belly. No enlarged warts on the arms. A parotoid gland that touches the ridge behind the eye. Three or more warts in each of the large dark spots on a brown, grey or greenish back."

Habitat:

"Primarily in areas with sandy soils, but can be found in most habitats, from fields to forests.
Breeds in shallow wet depressions, roadside ditches, and shallow margins of permanent bodies of water."

Hi there 15bthurston, this is a tree frog. Toads have cranial crests and paratoid glands usually, and are mostly warty. This frog has smooth skin and the distinctive white patch below the eye that makes it either a Gray Tree Frog or a Cope's Gray Tree Frog. They are visually indistinguishable, but you only have the Cope's Gray in your area.
