Description:
This mushroom is common on oaks in North America. Fan shaped at first, then becoming hoof shaped with age. Becomes rugged and cracked brown to olive brown. Pore surface reddish brown, brown to yellow-brown or orange brown.
Habitat:
The tree this Phellinus everhartii is attached to has been cut down so don't know what kind of a tree it used to be. Looks like it has been there for a while. Spotted in the woods behind the house.
