Field Notes

Description:

Cluster of plants of cranefly orchid. Each plant puts out a single leaf to absorb sunlight during winter. Leaves have two or three longitudinal ‘ribs’ and often have ‘dimples’ with dark marks. Undersides of leaves are purple.

Habitat:

Growing in leaf litter in predominantly hardwood forest.

Notes:

Leaves will die off in late spring/early summer. Plants will flower in July-August. This orchid is found at many locations in this park.
