Description:

When I took the first photo of this web, I thought that the spider was not there as I just could not see it amongst the debris which made up the Trashline. However, when I went round to the other side of the web to get a different view, I saw the spider immediately. If you look at the second photo, you can see the little Cyclosa sp. at the left end of the Trashline. It is this ability to blend in with the detritus which helps this spider to avoid the attention of spider hunting wasps (Pompilidae) according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spider_wasp

Habitat:

This Cyclosa sp. was spotted on its web in our backyard. The web was suspended on the leaf stems of a very small sapling Melon Tree (Carica papaya) locally known as Papaya.

Notes:

The Cyclosa sp. shown here looks like Cyclosa insulana - https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/560706-Cyclosa-insulana
