Field Notes

Description:

Saw this Bat during a night walk and was taken completely by surprised as it was already dark/night and this Bat was still sleeping/resting instead of out hunting/feeding.

It is a small Bat, around 5 cm in height (Pic#5 with my index finger next to it for size reference) clinging to a small branch.

Members of this genus typically have a horseshoe-shaped, leaf-like structure on their nose, earning them the common name ‘horseshoe bats.’

Notes:

This Wooly Horseshoe Bat was newly discovered and described in 2015.
