Description:
This is a new hatchling, probably a few days old.
Newly hatched Phylliums are usually black or dark brown in color with white stripes. As they starts to feed, they will gain the green colors.
This baby is around 1 cm in size, quite well camouflaged on the new leafs of a guava tree.
Habitat:
Tropical forest, low altitude
This specie is endemic to Luzon, Philippines
Due to encroachment of human activities, this specie has adapted to areas bordering to secondary forest and feeding on guava plants.
Usually, once they settled on their food plant, in this case guava plant, they are likely to stay there for a long time.
Males may move to other trees when they reached adulthood as they have full wings and are good flyer.
