Field Notes

Description:

Large bird, about 70cm I guess (it was far away) brown with lighter shades formed by horizontal streaks in feather patterning, red tail.
Short beak.

Habitat:

In front of the garden of our holiday cottage, Upper Hells Gate, Saba, Dutch Antilles.

Notes:

We heard a bird calling out and flying high into the air and then dropping itself down while calling out alarm calls. It seemed to be attacking something, when I leaned forward from where we were sitting I spotted this huge Red Tailed Hawk perched on a rock. I am sure the other bird tried to chase this one away, to no avail.
