Field Notes

Description:

Male:
Crimson face and bill.
Gray head.
Crimson extending to the rump - upper-tail coverts and full length of tail.
Black central on abdomen and under-tail coverts.

Female:
Face and bill a dull red.
Olive gray with crimson wash body.

Habitat:

Pandanus, canegrass, paperbark, lush grasses and crops.

I saw these stunning little finches while on the Annie Creek walking trail. The first photo is of a female and the second is of a male.
