Field Notes

Description:

The mycelial threads by means of which Armillaria fungi (honey fungus) spread throughout the tree and from one tree to another, sometimes to an uninfected tree several metres away. The black bootlace-like rhizomorphs developed beneath the bark of the tree and eventually the bark fell away revealing these mycelial threads.

Habitat:

Broadleaf hardwood trees

Thank you very much Mark, really appreciate your help as I'm fumbling in the dark somewhat when identifying fungus and lichen but just loved the leathery threads.
