Wavy-leaf Thistle. Plumed Thistle
Cirsium undulatum
31.1151, -97.4686
Field Notes
Description:
Perennial, 1-3 ft. tall. The alternate leaves are cleft into narrow lobes that do not reach the midrib; the lobes are spine-tipped, lancolate, grey-green in color due to the whitish woolly covering on the surfaces. Because the leaves are not cleft deeply, they tend to twist and undulate, hence the name. Flowers range from creamy white to salmon to bright pink with a range of shades in between.
Habitat:
Miller Springs Park in shallow soil on rock spillway of Belton Lake Dam
