Cool spotting, Louis. Sure hope to see this plant one day :) I couldn't help but notice that in your description it says this plant is in symbiosis with mushrooms. But from what I've read this plant instead is parasitic on certain mushrooms, mycorrhizal fungi. So it's not the plant but the host mushroom that is in symbiosis with trees.
Nice picture. Late summer blooms of many Monotropaceae species can be seen in Western Mountains right about now.
