Field Notes

Description:

Male flamboyant with long tail, measuring well over 15cm in length - tail being half of it. Bright yellow belly and iridescent green head, neck and shoulders, with brown coat.
Female: some 10 cm in length, nondescript from other sunbirds, earth brown above, yellow underparts.

Habitat:

Common in Nile Valley and Red Sea coastal region on African side. In this spotting, seen on shores of White Nile, in Jebel Aulia region in a campsite near the dam. Semi-arid savannah, with plenty of acacia trees.
