Field Notes

Description:

A medium sized, very common dragonfly of gardens and fields. Eyes are green mottled with black; thorax is black with green stripes. Abdomen is striped with yellowish-green with black tiger like stripes. This yellowish-green part gets paler with maturity and in some older individuals it is almost creamy white. The terminal abdominal segments are black in colour while the anal appendages are creamy white.
It preys on smaller butterflies and dragonflies, flies.
Have seen it at different places in Kolkata, India.

Habitat:

It perches on shrubs and dry twigs for long time. Breeds in shallow degraded waters, drains, small ponds, marshes, puddles and temporary water bodies. But can also be seen far away from water because of their built.
Widespread throughout in Indian continent.
