White rhinoceros

There are two geographically and racially discrete populations of white rhino, neither of which occur naturally in Kenya. The southern race, saved from the brink of extinction in the early 20th century, now numbers some 20,000 animals in the wild, all descended from a bottleneck population of fewer than 30 individuals in South Africa's Imfolozi Game Reserve. The northern race, however, is now the rarest and most endangered of all living rhino taxa.
