Field Notes

Description:

Single spikes, white trumpet shaped flowers twisting up stem, about 6 inches high. Temperate terrestrial orchid, fall flowering, biennial.

Habitat:

Tall grass pond edge (about 3 - 6 feet away from shore), full to part sun. There were about 2 dozen in an area that is about 10'x 15'.

Notes:

These specimens were discovered at Vineyard Valley Golf Club (first seen in 2008). Grounds crew was made aware and asked not to mow the area and have complied, so I was happy to see the orchids return in 2010.
