Wildlife Spotting

It's just my take, so throw it into the mix with what you saw in person, your research into what lived in the area, what age of fossil you were most likely looking at (Devonian, I assume), etc.

Living in one of the last Gondwanaland remnant forests, I'm actually more familiar with Tree ferns than most, and that fossil seems more fern-like to me. Lycopsid fossils strike me as very "fish scale" looking. Whereas your pick makes me think of sigilaria., like in this photo: http://www.lachlanhunter.deadsetfreestuff.com/login/Sydney-Mines-NS/sigillaria.jpg. I actually went for a walk yesterday in a Fern tree forest; it's lovely, and kinda eerie at the same time.
