Field Notes

Description:

Quite large for a Salticid at around 2cm from head to tip of the abdomen. At first glance, I took it for a Bullet Ant, which were plentiful in the area. Probably it is a bullet ant-mimic... although my research has shown nothing. Two genera have come up so far, Zuniga and Sarinda, but without a clear match. Therefore, any suggestions welcome.

Habitat:

Tropical rainforest in the Ecuadorian Amazon region, in the vicinity of Tena.

Thanks, Felipe. I thought Myrmarachne, but haven't been able to confirm genus. I don't think it's formicaria, mainly due to size.

Indeed, it took more than one look to work out it wasn't an Ant.
