Field Notes

Description:

Nymphs of this species (and within the entire genus) have black and white banded antennae. S. furcata is brightly colored: green, with lighter green longitudinal stripes on its abdomen, orange spots on the sides of its head and the top of its pronotum. It has red eyes, and what look like black spheres at the base of its antennae.

Habitat:

Found on Vitis sp.

Notes:

I'm leaning towards Scudderia furcata for this species, but I am not positive yet. It is widespread throughout North America. It could also be S. cuneata, which is similar to S. furcata. There are five species of Scudderia that occur in Ohio, so I need to do some more searching to pin this one down.
