Field Notes

Description:

Eggs of Arilus cristatus. In the scientific literature, they are reported to "resemble miniature brown bottles with fancy white stoppers."

Notes:

A gummy cement glues them together and protects them from predators (to varying degrees of effectiveness) and the elements. For more information about wheel bugs, you can go here: http://normalbiology.blogspot.com/2011/01/inventing-wheelbug.html

I love that description. They do really look like a bunch of miniature brown bottles.
