Field Notes

Description:

Also known as Grey-headed Myna, this a medium sized starling of some 20 cm in length, with grey-brown back and black flight feathers. The underparts are orange-rufous; while the head is light grey with whitish streaking around the collar - one of the characteristics of subspecies S. m. nemoricola. Other recognisable traits are white irises and a blue-based yellow beak.

Habitat:

I've seen the pair of them on a hole in the wall (of our hotel), likely constructing the nest, and chasing sparrows from the hole... Wooded area in a hotel garden right behind the town beach in Sittwe.
