Field Notes

Description:

Short-horned grasshoppers size range from is 0.2” to 4.3”.
Most are green or straw colored.
Their hind legs are great for jumping.
They also have very large femurs.
Some have wings but others don’t.
To make the sound they make, they rub their legs together.
They have hearing organs at the base of their abdomen (body).
Females lay about 100 eggs in soil at a time

Habitat:

We found this insect in a field by the school.
