Field Notes

Description:

These small sparrows are about 15 to 19 cm (5.9 to 7.5 in) in length. There are two color variations: a tan-striped and a white-striped. These refer to the color of the strips on the face. This is probably a young bird whose coloration is still coming in so it may be difficult to tell at this stage which color version this bird is.

Habitat:

Summer range extends from central Canada to the New England states in mountain or boreal forests. They winter in southern and eastern U.S. and the Canada Maritime Provinces.
