Field Notes

Description:

Approximately 10 inches high, pink pouch. Terrestrial, temperate orchid. Spring flowering, biennial.

Habitat:

Dappled sunlight, wooded trail edge. Trail running between mixed hardwood forest and wet meadow marsh bordering pond. VERY close to trail edge on a pretty heavily traveled trail (walkers, dogs, & horses).

Notes:

Spotted 3 single lady slippers at first (where these pics were taken). About a 1/2 mile further along the trail was a patch of about a dozen in a little meadow area off the trail but closer to the pond edge (in an area less heavily traveled).

Thanks Scott, but not in CT. Lady Slippers are the most common New England orchid species :)
