Parasitized catalpa sphinx caterpillar
Ceratomia catalpae
39.2454, -81.705
Field Notes
Description:
Usually it doesn't have all those wasp cocoons on its back.
Habitat:
Its host plant is Catalpa speciosa.
Notes:
This one has been parasitized, and the wasps have already emerged from its body and spun their cocoons on top of it. It doesn't have much longer to live. Feel free to try to count all the cocoons. You can see one of the wasps climbing over the caterpillar in the second photo.
