Description:

This is a first spotting for me of this species. The American snout nose butterfly can be identified with its beak-like labial palps. Topside fore wing has white spots and orange patches on dark background. Underside is violet-gray.

Habitat:

Found this American snout nose butterfly in a goldenrod patch of wildflowers at Assateague Island, Ocean City, Maryland
