Yes, I think it looked similar, noticed it by the tail. Thanks!
I think Saccolaimus saccolaimus is the most likely species. Did you notice whether the bat preyed upon by the other snake http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/19426298 looked similar?
yes, the predation event was on my neighbor's tree. It is only two trees from where I found the fallen bat. It has a short tail and large wings, yes a dark grey wings. I've read the reference link and it appears to be S. saccolaimus. What do you think?
Hi Vernando, I discovered your other spotting: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/19426298 Did you observe this bat near where you saw the snake praying on the other bat? Giving your description another thought, it's likely to be Saccolaimus saccolaimus as Taphozous spp. usually roost in caves and cave-like structures while S. saccolaimus is frequently found in hollow trees and palms: http://www.iucnredlist.org/details/19802/0#sectionHabitat
Definitely not a fruit bat but one of the larger sheath-tailed bats, e.g. http://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/41376-Taphozous-melanopogon http://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/41375-Taphozous-theobaldi http://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/41343-Saccolaimus-saccolaimus
