Description:

Female House Finch building or repairing a nest.

Habitat:

Woodland Trail next to a parking lot.

Notes:

Originally only a resident of Mexico and the southwestern United States, they were introduced to eastern North America in the 1940s. House finches are early nesters, beginning in March in most of the country. Both male and female House Finch display a strong tendency to return to the same area to breed, often occupying the same nest site as the previous year.
